About

This was a long time coming. It was an idea that had been kicking around for the last year, and it is now in full swing. What am I referring to? I’m referring to a new Young Adult Ministry for Faith Bible Church.

Over the last several years, many different groups of young adults (married and single) have been gathering in different groupings. While there are great relationships there, it was long felt that these groups ought to come together to build a stronger community of young adults. A good start was made with lunchtime gatherings after church on Sunday (I can’t believe they ate that leftover curry!) and made for a good launching point for an evening fellowship.

After talking with many of the young adults, it seemed that people wanted a place where they could just get together and talk about life and faith. They wanted a place to build friendships. They wanted a place to get beyond the surface and grow deeper in community. I was talking with Sarah Shifflett one day, and I can’t remember who threw out the general thought, but it was something like, “People just want a place to meet and talk about real life and real faith.”  And so the idea of “A Meeting Place” was born.

A.M.P. (for short) is about getting real. Real Relationships, Real Love, Real Compassion, Real Holiness, Real Faith, and so on. It is a place of open conversation. Hopefully it will be of time of real answers… or maybe no answers at all. But that’s okay. A.M.P. is a place where people can come and feel free to grapple with the Scriptures.  It’s a place where people can come and feel like they can be themselves. But most of all, it is a place to experience Christ through a community of people who love Him and one another.

Unlike most fellowship groups that begin their time in worship, A.M.P. ends with worship.  This is done as a reminder that no matter what was discussed, no matter what diverging thoughts may have been shared, Christ is at the center of this group. People are to leave with Christ first. To further keep Christ central in this community, each evening ends in large group prayer. The prayer time has been one of the most encouraging parts of the meetings so far. The openness and willingness to pray has been powerful. This is key to building a strong and healthy community centered on Christ.

If all this sounds good to you, consider checking us out. Our next meeting and location is posted on the homepage. If you’d like to talk to someone about, contact Pastor Mike at the church (206-322-8044) or by email.
