Day 39

ルカの福音書 23章24～46節

24) それでピラトは、彼らの要求どおりにすることに決めた。25) すなわち、暴動と人殺しのかどで牢に入れられていた男を願いどおりに釈放し、他方イエスを彼らに引き渡して好きなようにさせた。

26) 彼らはイエスを引いて行く途中、田舎から出て来たシモンというクレネ人を捕まえ、この人に十字架を負わせてイエスの後から運ばせた。27)  民衆や、イエスのことを嘆き悲しむ女たちが大きな一群をなして、イエスの後について行った。28) イエスは彼女たちの方を振り向いて言われた。「エルサレムの娘たち、わたしのために泣いてはいけません。むしろ自分自身と、自分の子どもたちのために泣きなさい。29) なぜなら人々が、『不妊の女、子を産んだことのない胎、飲ませたことのない乳房は幸いだ』と言う日が来るのですから。30) そのとき、人々は山々に向かって『私たちの上に崩れ落ちよ』と言い、丘に向かって『私たちをおおえ』と言い始めます。31) 生木にこのようなことが行われるなら、枯れ木には、いったい何が起こるでしょうか。」

32)  ほかにも二人の犯罪人が、イエスとともに死刑にされるために引かれて行った。33) 「どくろ」と呼ばれている場所に来ると、そこで彼らはイエスを十字架につけた。また犯罪人たちを、一人は右に、もう一人は左に十字架につけた。34) そのとき、イエスはこう言われた。「父よ、彼らをお赦しください。彼らは、自分が何をしているのかが分かっていないのです。」

彼らはイエスの衣を分けるために、くじを引いた。35) 民衆は立って眺めていた。議員たちもあざ笑って言った。「あれは他人を救った。もし神のキリストで、選ばれた者なら、自分を救ったらよい。」36)  兵士たちも近くに来て、酸いぶどう酒を差し出し、37) 「おまえがユダヤ人の王なら、自分を救ってみろ」と言ってイエスを嘲った。38) 「これはユダヤ人の王」と書いた札も、イエスの頭の上に掲げてあった。

39) 十字架にかけられていた犯罪人の一人は、イエスをののしり、「おまえはキリストではないか。自分とおれたちを救え」と言った。40) すると、もう一人が彼をたしなめて言った。「おまえは神を恐れないのか。おまえも同じ刑罰を受けているではないか。41) おれたちは、自分のしたことの報いを受けているのだから当たり前だ。だがこの方は、悪いことを何もしていない。」42) そして言った。「イエス様。あなたが御国に入られるときには、私を思い出してください。」43) イエスは彼に言われた。「まことに、あなたに言います。あなたは今日、わたしとともにパラダイスにいます。」

44) さて、時はすでに十二時ごろであった。全地が暗くなり、午後三時まで続いた。45) 太陽は光を失っていた。すると神殿の幕が真ん中から裂けた。46) イエスは大声で叫ばれた。「父よ、わたしの霊をあなたの御手にゆだねます。」こう言って、息を引き取られた。

ディボーショナル

イエスは、十字架の上で耐え難い肉体的な苦しみを経験されました。しかし、それ以上に霊的な苦しみを経験されました。人からの罵りとあざけりにより、神の権威は否定され、父なる神からは断絶され、呪われたです。

このような状況の中で、イエスは十字架の上から7つの言葉を叫ばれました。これらは以下のように、4つの福音書に渡って記録されますが、そのうちルカは3つを書き残しています。

十字架の上から叫ばれたイエスの言葉を一つひとつ見ていくと、人を赦すことと、神から裁きを受けることのどちらかしかありません。耐え難い苦しみの渦中でも、神と人しか思っていないことが分かります。そして、そのまま死を受け入れられたのです。

これこそ、神が私たちを愛するアガペーの愛です。これより深い愛を、私たちは経験することはできません。この愛は、親切にしてくれたり、アドバイスをくれたり、願った祈りに応えてくれるといった程度のものではありません。すべてを失ってでも、私たちのいのちを救い出したい。そのような愛です。

グッドフライデーを迎えた今日、イエスを十字架につけたのは、まがいもなく「私」であることを覚えたいと思います。「自分が何をしているのか分かっていなかった（ルカ23：34）」のは「私」です。神から見捨てられるはずだったのは「私」です（マタイ27：46、マルコ15：34）。この日、十字架の上で叫ばれたイエスの言葉を思い巡らせながら、その原因が私であったことを深く覚える日としたいと思います。

「父よ、彼らをお赦しください。彼らは、自分が何をしているのかが分かっていないのです。」（ルカ23：34）

「まことに、あなたに言います。あなたは今日、わたしとともにパラダイスにいます。」（ルカ23：43）

「ご覧なさい。あなたの息子です。」、「ご覧なさい。あなたの母です。」（ヨハネ19：26－27）

「エリ、エリ、レマ、サバクタニ。」「わが神、わが神、どうしてわたしをお見捨てになったのですか。」（マタイ27：46、マルコ15：34）

「わたしは渇く」（ヨハネ19：28）

「完了した」（ヨハネ19：30）

「父よ、わたしの霊をあなたの御手にゆだねます。」（ルカ23：46）

問いかけ

もう一度、今日の聖書箇所をゆっくり読んでみましょう。イエスを十字架につけたのは、誰だったのか、思い巡らしてみましょう。

祈り

主よ。十字架の上で経験されたあなたの苦痛と死は、間違いなく私のためでした。本当は私が受けるはずのことでした。しかし、私を救いたい一心で、身代わりになって下さいました。このあなたの愛をもっと教えてください。十字架の上から私に向かって叫ばれた言葉を思い巡らせます。どうぞ私の罪をお赦しください。イエスの御名によって。アーメン。

Silence and Stillness before God (2 minutes)

Luke 23:24-46

24) So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25) He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

26) As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27) A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28) Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29) For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30) Then“ ‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’ 31) For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

32) Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33) When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34) Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 35) The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” 36) The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37) and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” 38) There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39) One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40) But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41) We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42) Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43) Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

44) It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45) for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46) Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Devotional

Jesus experienced unbearable physical pain on the cross. But, even more than that, He experienced spiritual suffering. He was mocked by men, being denied of his divine authority, and he was cursed and cut off from God the Father.

In the midst of all this, Jesus cries out seven words on the cross. These are recorded across the four Gospels, as follows, of which Luke wrote three. Looking at each of Jesus’ words on the cross, they are either to forgive others or to be judged by God. Even in the midst of unbearable suffering, we see that Jesus had only in mind others and God, but not himself. In this way, He surrendered his life to God and accepted death.

It is this agape love with which God loves us. We cannot experience a deeper love than this. This love is far beyond merely showing kindness, giving a word of advice, or having an answer to a prayer. The is a love that makes you give up everything so that others will be saved. Agape is that kind of love.

Today is Good Friday, we want to remember that it was I who crucified Jesus. It was I who “did not know what I was doing (Luke 23:34).” It is I who should have been abandoned by God (Matt. 27:46, Mk. 15:34). On this day, as we ponder the words of Jesus on the cross, let us remember deeply that it was I who put him to death.

Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do (Lk. 23:34)

To day shalt thou be with me in paradise (Lk. 23:43)

Woman, behold, thy son! Behold, thy mother! (Jn. 19:26-27)

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Matt. 27:46, Mk. 15:34)

I thirst (Jn. 19:28)

It is finished (Jn. 19:30)

Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit (Lk. 23:46)

Reflection 

Re-read this again slowly and prayerfully, engaging your imagination as each scene unfolds. What do you see, hear, feel, smell, in each scene? What is all this meant to mean to you? Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the story of Christ’s death for you today.

Prayer

Lord, your pain and death on the cross was definitely for my sake. In fact, it was supposed to be for me. However, with a single desire to save me, you took my place. Let me understand more about this love of yours. Guide me to reflect on the words you cried out to me on the cross. Forgive me, Lord. In your name, amen.
