詩篇 139篇1～12節
指揮者のために。ダビデの賛歌。
1) 主よ あなたは私を探り 知っておられます。
2) あなたは 私の座るのも立つのも知っておられ
遠くから私の思いを読み取られます。
3) あなたは私が歩くのも伏すのも見守り
私の道のすべてを知り抜いておられます。
4) ことばが私の舌にのぼる前に なんと主よ
あなたはそのすべてを知っておられます。
5) あなたは前からうしろから私を取り囲み
御手を私の上に置かれました。
6) そのような知識は私にとって あまりにも不思議
あまりにも高くて 及びもつきません。
7) 私はどこへ行けるでしょう。あなたの御霊から離れて。
どこへ逃れられるでしょう。あなたの御前を離れて。
8) たとえ 私が天に上っても こにあなたはおられ
私がよみに床を設けても そこにあなたはおられます。

夜は昼のように明るいのです。
暗闇も光も同じことです。

静まって神の言葉に心を傾ける時、私たちは神と出会うことができます。目に見えなくても、声は聞こえなくても、私たちは神様がすぐそばにおられることに気づくのです。さらに、神の思いを知り、私たちの心への語りかけに気づくようになります。
しかし、今日の御言葉を読んで、はっとさせられることがあります。私たちが神に気づく前から、神は私たちのことを知っておられたことです。私たちは、信仰を持つ前はもとより、信仰を持った後も、なかなか心を静めて神の前に座すことができませんでした。ディボーションや祈りを通して、やっとのことで神を見出すことができるようになった弱い者です。しかし、真実なのは、私たちが神と向き合い、神を見出す前から、神は私たちを知っておられたことです。
それも、私たちのすべてをご存知なのです。私たちの言葉や行動、一挙手一投足に至るまでご存知です。心の深みにある傷や葛藤、言葉にできないようなうごめく思いまでも、すべてご存知です。私たちの弱さも罪もすべてご存知です。私たちは、長年連れ添った伴侶や、一緒に暮らしきた家族のことは、良いところも悪いところもよく知っています。しかし、神が私たちを知るレベルは、それをも遥かに超えているのです。
その上で、神は「あえて」私たちと共にいて下さっています。私たちのことを知った上で一緒にいてくださるのは、当たり前ではありません。人間であれば、到底できないことでしょう。これまでに犯してきた大きな罪や失敗、言葉を失うほどの心の醜さを知った時には、人間であれば愛想を尽かせます。親でも、子供でも、親友でも、伴侶でも、あなたに失望するでしょう。信頼できないでしょう。
しかし、そんな私たちが神と共にいることができるのは、ただキリストの十字架のゆえです。私たちの代わりにキリストが神との関係から断絶されたことで、私たちは神との関係を築き、共にいることができるようになりました。だからこそ、イエスの名は「インマヌエル（神は共におられる）」と呼ばれたのです。
今日の詩篇から教えられることは、私たちが神を知ろうとする前から、神は私たちのことを、しかも完全に知っておられることです。また、私たちがどこへ行っても、何をしても、寝ても覚めても、いつも共におられることです。何という安心でしょうか。こう考えると、放蕩息子のたとえ話に出てくる息子たちのことを父親はすべて知っていたのでしょう。その上で、心から迎え入れ、励ましたのでしょう。神が自分を知り、自分と共におられることに気づく時、私たちは真の平安を経験します。神がいつも追ってこられるので、私たちは神の愛から離れることができません。
受難週も終盤に入り、キリストが十字架についたグッドフライデーが明日に迫ってきました。私たちが神と共にいることを可能にするために、十字架の道を歩まれたイエスを深く覚えたいと思います。
問いかけ
安心して神と向き合うことを妨げるもの、偽りの声は何でしょうか。
恥の意識や罪悪感でしょうか。目先の仕事でしょうか。
一方、神の招きの声、真実の声は、どのようなものでしょうか。
祈り
主よ。これまであなたを知ろうとしてきましたが、あなたは私のことをすべてご存知でした。私があなたを愛する前から、あなたは私を愛して下さいました。いつも共にいて下さいました。私が神と永遠に共に過ごすために、あなたが十字架の道を選ばれたことを覚えます。あなたを十字架につけた私をどうぞ赦してください。イエスの御名によって。アーメン。

Silence and Stillness before God (2 minutes)
Psalm 139:1-12
0) For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1) You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
2) You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3) You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4) Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
5) You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7) Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8) If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9) If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10) even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11) If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12) even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Devotional
When we become still and attentive to God’s Word, God invites us to encounter Him. Even though we cannot see Him or hear His voice, we realize that He is right beside us. Furthermore, we become aware of His voice speaking to our hearts and learn His will.
But, there is still one thing that makes us gasp when we read today’s psalm. Actually, God knew us before we knew Him. It is obviously true before we came to faith. But, the fact that we still find ourselves difficult to come before God in silence and stillness. If we become honest, we still struggle with discovering God in our devotions and prayers each day. But, the truth is that God knows us before we encounter Him.
And, God knows everything about us. He knows our words, our actions, our every move. He knows all our secret pain and struggles in our heart, even our unspeakable thoughts and feelings. He knows all our hidden weaknesses and sins. When we live with our spouse or our family members for many years, we get to know them really well, both good and bad things about them. But, God knows us far beyond that.
Nevertheless, God invites us into a relationship with him. We cannot take this for granted – to be fully known by God, and to be fully with God. It is because that, as a matter of fact we are not worth it. God is just and righteous that He cannot bear with us if He were to know our greatest sins, greatest failures, and the ugliest and the most unloving part of our hearts. Even humans cannot endure us. Whether a parent, a child, a best friend, or a spouse, if they were to discover the darkest part of our heart, perhaps they cannot help but get disappointed and leave. We are just not trustworthy. And, this is true to all humanity.
But, we can be with God only because of Jesus’ cross, as Charles Spurgeon confesses, “I cannot endure the sight of God until I see him in Christ; and God cannot bear the sight of me till he sees me in Christ.” Jesus was abandoned and was cut off from the relationship with God on our behalf, so that we can build relationship with God. That is why Jesus was named Immanuel (God is with us).
What we learn from today’s psalm is that God knows us, even before we try to know Him, and He knows us perfectly. He is with us wherever we go, whatever we do, whether we are asleep or awake. How amazing is that! It reminds us of the parable of Prodigal Son once again. Either younger or elder son, the father must have known everything about their selfishness. But, he still welcomed and encouraged both of them, wholeheartedly. When we realize that God knows us and is with us, we would experience true peace. We cannot be separated from God’s love because God is always pursuing us.
In the Passion Week, now we approaching Good Friday, the day on which Christ was crucified. In our relationship with God today, we want to remember and reflect on Jesus who walked the way of the cross which enabled us to be with God.
Reflection
What are the things that prevent you from knowing that God is always with you? What is the false voice that you hear?
Is it a sense of shame or guilt? Is it your work or life that calls you to prioritize more than God?
On the other hand, how is God inviting you into his relationship? What is the true voice that you hear from God?
Prayer
Lord, I have tried to find you, but you have known everything about me already. You loved me before I loved you. You have always been with me. You chose the way of the cross so that I could be with God and call him my Father for eternity. Forgive me for putting you on the cross. In your name, amen.
