詩篇 27篇

ダビデによる。
1) 主は私の光 私の救い。だれを私は恐れよう。
主は私のいのちの砦。だれを私は怖がろう。
2) 私の肉を食らおうと悪を行う者が私に襲いかかったとき
崩れ落ちたのは 私に逆らう者 私の敵であった。
3) たとえ 私に対して陣営が張られても 私の心は恐れない。
たとえ 私に対して戦いが起こっても それにも私は動じない。
4) 一つのことを私は主に願った。それを私は求めている。
私のいのちの日の限り 主の家に住むことを。
主の麗しさに目を注ぎ その宮で思いを巡らすために。
5) それは 主が苦しみの日に私を隠れ場に隠し

ディボーショナル

祈りやディボーションをする時、私たちは一体、何を求めているのでしょうか。問題の解決でしょうか。自分の願いが叶えられることでしょうか。仕事や家事がはかどるために、心晴れやかになることでしょうか。詩編27篇でダビデが歌っているように、確かに私たちは問題の解決や、自分や家族の守りのために祈り求めるべきです。しかし、ダビデが「最も」求めたものはそれではありませんでした。

敵の軍隊に包囲され、自分と家族の命が狙われるという切迫した状況の中で、ダビデは「一つのこと（4節）」を神に願いました。それは「主の家に住むこと」です（4節）。これは「主の御顔を慕い求めること」であり（8節）、「主を待ち望むこと」でした（14節）。

危機に直面したダビデが真っ先に求めたものは、勝利でも、身の守りでもなく、神ご自身だったのです。神の家に住むというのは、神と共に生活することです。それは、神の素晴らしさを覚えるためでした（4節）。

この時、ダビデが経験したのは、恐れからの解放でした（1節）。これを霊的な（＝神様との関係における）平安と言います。詩編27篇を見ると、確かにダビデは身体的、感情的には非常に圧迫されています。一方で、心の奥深いところでは平安を経験しています。身体や感情には痛みがある反面、魂には平安があるという、理論的には矛盾しているように見えます。しかし、神ご自身を第一に求める時、状況に依らないで霊的な平安が与えられるのです。

今日の御言葉から教えられることは何でしょうか。それは、ディボーションをする時には、まず神との出会いを求めるべきだということです。もちろん問題の解決も求めますが、ダビデのようにまずは神ご自身を求めたいのです。その時には、どんなに苦しい状況でも、思い通りにならない状況でも、私たちは霊的な平安を経験することができます。

私たちはディボーションを通して毎日、神と出会う必要があります。それは、毎日、感動を覚えるということではありません。毎日、神の前に静まり、神を求め、神の声に心を傾けるということです。その時はじめて、神は私たちの心に語りかけてくださいます。そして、揺るがない平安を与えて下さるのです。

鉄に磁石をこすりつけると、次第に鉄は磁力を帯びてきます。それと同じように、いつも感動はなくとも、毎日、神様と向き合うことによって、次第に大きな力を帯びるようになります。形だけではなく心からディボーションを続ける時、気づいたら生き方が大きく変えられていたというのは、誰もが経験できる福音の約束なのです。

問いかけ

ディボーションが形だけになり、神との出会いを妨げてしまうものは何でしょうか？

祈り

神様。私の内には、あなたと共にいたいと願う自分がいる反面、あなたと時間を過ごすことを避けたり、後回しにしている自分がいることにも気づきます。今日、立ち止まってあなたの前に静まる機会を与えて下さり、ありがとうございます。私があなたから離れたり、恐れに捕らわれるときも、私の心をノックし続けて下さり感謝します。ダビデが祈ったように、いつもあなたと共に過ごさせてください。あなたの恵みを数えさせてください。イエスの御名によって。アーメン。

Silence and Stillness before God (2 minutes)

Psalm 27

Of David.
1) The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
2) When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.
3) Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
4) One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
5) For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.
6) Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
7) Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me.
8) My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.
9) Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior.
10) Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
11) Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
12) Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.

14) Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Devotional

When we spend time for prayers or devotionals, what exactly are we looking for? Is it a solution to our problem in life? Is it to have our wishes come true? Is it to feel refreshed so that we can enjoy and focus on our work or chores? As David sings in Psalm 27, we should certainly pray and ask for solutions to our problems and for protection for ourselves and our family. But actually that was not his focus in his song.

In the midst of an imminent threat to his life and the lives of his family, besieged by ememies and armies, David asked God for “one thing (v. 4).” That is, to “dwell in the house of the Lord (v. 4).” This was to “seek Lord’s face (v. 8)” and to “wait for the Lord (v. 14).” First and foremost, David sought in the face of danger was not victory or protection, but God Himself. To live in the house of God is to live with God. It was to reflect on his beauty (v. 4).

Then, what David experienced was freedom and relief from fear (v. 1). This is called shalom or spiritual peace in relationship with God. Reading Psalm 27, David is in fact immensely oppressed, physically and emotionally. On the other hand, deep down his heart, his soul discovers peace. While he finds pain physically and emotionally, he also finds peace in his soul, which seems contradictory in theory. But, the truth is that when we first seek God Himself, God provides us with spiritual peace regardless of any circumstances.

So, what is God speaking to us today? It is that when we do devotionals, we always want to seek and encounter with God. Of course, we want to seek solutions to our problems, but like David, we want to seek God Himself first. Then, God grants us spiritual peace, no matter how difficult the situation may be, no matter how things seem to be out of our control.

We need to encounter God each day in our daily devotionals. That does not mean that we need to moved or become emotional each day. It means that we need to come before God in silence and stillness each day, seeking Him and listening to His voice. Only then can God speak to our hearts. And, He will give us his unshakable peace.

When you keep rubbing a magnet against iron, the iron gradually becomes magnetic. In the same way, by encountering God day by day, even though we may not feel dramatic about devotionals every day, we will gradually be transformed in God’s likeness. When we keep trying to seek and desire God in our daily devotionals, it is a promise of the Gospel that one day we will all find out that our life has been greatly transformed.

What are some things that make devotionals merely a formality or prevent us from encountering God?

Prayer

Lord, a part of me so longs to be alone with you. Another part of me wants to run and avoid time with you at all costs. Thank you for this opportunity today to stop and listen to you. Thank you for continuing to knock at my door — especially when I am too anxious or distant to hear you. Grant to me, I pray, a heart like David’s — one that genuinely longs for you above all else in this life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
